Rajesh Bindal, an Indian-origin neurosurgeon from Texas, has been fined over $2M for Medicare fraud. Bindal falsely billed invasive surgeries to Medicare and the Federal Employees Health Benefits Programme (FEHBP) while providing patients with non-invasive electro-acupuncture procedures at his clinic, Texas Spine & Neurosurgery Center PA. The surgeries, requiring operating rooms, are reimbursed at thousands of dollars per procedure. Instead, monofilament wires were inserted into patients' ears and secured with adhesive, often handled by assistants or device representatives. US Attorney Alamdar Hamdani condemned Bindal for exploiting federal healthcare, emphasizing the impact on beneficiaries relying on these programmes for critical care.
