During Diwali celebrations at Ottawa’s Parliament Hill, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that while some Khalistan supporters exist in Canada, they do not represent the Sikh community as a whole. Similarly, he said supporters of PM Modi’s government do not represent all Hindu Canadians. Trudeau’s remarks come amid strained India-Canada relations, following his allegations of Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India rejected these accusations and has since expelled Canadian diplomats, citing concerns over pro-Khalistan activities in Canada. New Delhi remains worried about the safety of Indian nationals in Canada.
