India and China will finalize their military disengagement along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) today, covering the Demchok and Depsang areas in eastern Ladakh. This move follows an agreement aiming to improve ties between the two countries, strained since the 2020 Galwan clash. Both sides will withdraw troops and dismantle temporary structures. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar noted this as a first step toward easing border tensions. Though troops will revert to pre-2020 positions, unresolved issues at the LAC mean further efforts will be needed to build trust and negotiate a long-term border settlement.
