Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, escalated the ongoing diplomatic row with India, accusing Indian diplomats of backing a "pattern of criminal harassment and violence" against Canadians. This dispute, stemming from the killing of Sikh extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada in 2023, has led to both nations expelling each other's diplomats. Trudeau stated that India "attacked me personally" and alleged that its diplomats were involved in criminal activities on Canadian soil. India, rejecting these claims, recalled its High Commissioner and expelled six Canadian diplomats, denouncing Ottawa’s accusations as "baseless targeting" of its officials.
