Hurricane Milton has made landfall in Florida, causing widespread devastation with deadly tornadoes, floods, and storm surges. Over 2 million homes and businesses have lost power. While the hurricane has weakened from a category five to a category one, it continues to wreak havoc. St Lucie County on the Atlantic coast has reported several deaths, and in St Petersburg, the roof of a Major League Baseball stadium was torn off. Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis, confirmed that around 125 homes, many mobile, have been destroyed. Milton’s destruction comes just two weeks after Hurricane Helene killed 225 people across the Southeast.
