As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida, more than 5.5 million residents are under mandatory evacuation orders in coastal regions, marking one of the state's largest evacuations in history. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor emphasized the dire consequences of ignoring evacuation warnings, stating, “If you choose to stay in one of those evacuation areas, you're gonna die.” The storm is expected to bring a devastating 10 to 12-foot tidal surge, significantly higher than the 6-foot surge from Hurricane Helene.
