India's Chandrayaan-3 mission landed on one of the Moon’s oldest craters, formed during the Nectarian period over 3.85 billion years ago, according to researchers from ISRO and the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad. Images from the mission’s Vikram lander and Pragyan rover revealed that the landing site was buried under ejecta from the South Pole-Aitken basin, one of the Moon’s largest impact basins. This discovery offers valuable insights into the Moon's geological history, showcasing how it evolved over time. The landing occurred near the Moon's south pole on August 23, 2023.
