Typhoon Bebinca struck near Shanghai early Monday, marking the strongest storm to hit the city in 75 years, according to the China Meteorological Administration. The typhoon made landfall in Lingang New City, Shanghai’s eastern coastal area. In preparation, over 400,000 people were evacuated from the metropolitan area, with an additional 9,000 people relocated from Chongming District. The storm led to widespread disruptions, including the cancellation of hundreds of flights, suspension of train services, and highway closures. A 40km/h speed limit was imposed on city roads. Residents of Shanghai, which has a population of 25 million, were advised to stay home as the storm approached.
