Super Typhoon Yagi Hits Northern Vietnam, Kills 4; Winds Reach 160 kph

Super Typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm in Asia this year, made landfall in northern Vietnam, killing at least four people and injuring 78. The typhoon hit island districts around 1 p.m. with winds up to 160 kph after weakening from its 234 kph peak in China’s Hainan. Thousands of trees were uprooted, homes were damaged, and power outages affected Haiphong and other provinces. More than 50,000 people were evacuated, and 300 flights were canceled. The storm previously claimed lives in the Philippines and China. Vietnam’s meteorological agency has warned of potential flooding in Hanoi.
