The decomposed body of Ishaque Ali Khan Panna, a prominent Awami League leader from Bangladesh, was recovered from a betelnut plantation in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills district, near the India-Bangladesh border. Panna, a former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League, had been absconding since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5. The body, discovered on August 26, was identified through his passport. While initial reports suggest Panna may have died of cardiac arrest while crossing the border, conflicting accounts indicate a possible shooting incident. The exact circumstances of his death are yet to be confirmed.
