The Bangladesh caretaker government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, has released Jashimuddin Rahmani, the chief of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), an al-Qaida affiliate. This has raised concerns in India as ABT has been trying to establish a jihadi network with sleeper cells. Rahmani, convicted in the hacking death of blogger Rajib Haider, was released on parole. ABT, banned in Bangladesh, is believed to be collaborating with Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba to target India’s northeastern states. Indian intelligence has reported that ABT has plans to infiltrate Tripura, heightening fears of increased terrorist activity in the region.
