Second Indian Worker Dies on Italian Farm Due to Extreme Heat and Overwork

A fifty-four-year-old Indian migrant worker, Dalvir Singh from Punjab, died on a flower farm in central Italy due to extreme heat and a heavy workload. Singh's death marks the second tragedy involving an Indian worker on an Italian farm in three months. Migrant workers in Italy often face slave-like conditions, exploited by gangmasters who force them into long, grueling shifts. In July, Italian police rescued two dozen Indian workers from similar conditions. Singh's family is now seeking to return his body to India as investigations continue into the lack of protection against extreme heat on Italian farms.
