On August 26, 2024, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the Indian diaspora as a "living bridge" between the US and India during his visit to Memphis, Tennessee. Singh acknowledged their contributions to society, science, and the economy while interacting with the community at the National Civil Rights Museum. His visit is part of a four-day official trip aimed at strengthening the US-India strategic partnership. Singh also toured advanced naval facilities in Memphis and Maryland, and met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin.
