India Considers Sourcing Cheetahs from Somalia, Sudan to Avoid Adaptation Issues

India is considering sourcing cheetahs from Northern Hemisphere countries like Somalia, Sudan, and Tanzania to avoid adaptation challenges observed in cheetahs from South Africa and Namibia. These cheetahs developed thick winter coats during the Indian summer, leading to health issues. Officials believe that cheetahs from countries closer to the equator would better adapt to India's climate. Currently, all 25 cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park are healthy, with plans to release them into the wild after the monsoon. The focus remains on managing their environment and preventing further complications.
