Floods in India’s northeastern state of Tripura and neighboring Bangladesh have left at least fifteen people dead and stranded hundreds of thousands. In Tripura, eleven people were killed by drowning and mudslides, and thousands were displaced. The state issued a “red” alert, closed schools, and opened over three hundred relief camps. In Bangladesh, four deaths were reported as rising waters from upstream India affected areas like Cumilla, Feni, and Noakhali. Rescue efforts are underway, but communication and power outages hinder the response. Some Bangladeshi residents blamed India’s dam operations for the sudden floods, which India denied.
