Indian Navy Seeks Approval For Two Nuclear Attack Submarines As Project Delta Faces Delays

The Indian Navy has requested government approval to build two nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs) as part of its efforts to bolster its fleet in the Indo-Pacific. This move comes after delays in 'Project Delta'—originally intended to lease Russian Akula-class SSNs—due to Russia's focus on Ukraine. The Navy's proposed SSNs aim to counter threats from China's expanding naval presence and its support to Pakistan. With INS Arighat and INS Arihant already operational, India is also preparing to commission INS Aridaman next year, solidifying its nuclear triad and strengthening its strategic deterrence capabilities.
