Central China has been devastated by torrential rains triggered by Typhoon Gaemi, resulting in at least 30 deaths and 35 missing persons, state media reported on Thursday. The hilly Hunan province was particularly affected, with Zixing city experiencing record rainfall of 645 millimeters in just 24 hours. Over 11,000 residents were evacuated, and infrastructure, including roads, power, and communications, was severely impacted. While some services have been restored, search and rescue operations continue. Initial reports indicated fewer casualties, but the numbers have since increased as more areas are reached.
