Thousands of Indian medical students have fled Bangladesh following violent protests that erupted last week, resulting in 151 deaths. The unrest, sparked by demands to reform the country’s job quota system, saw students crossing borders into India through states like Meghalaya and West Bengal. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed over 4,500 Indian nationals had returned home. Shahzeb Ismail Syed, an 18-year-old student from Aurangabad, described the chaos in Dhaka and the tense journey back to India.
