Mewa Singh, a 60-year-old Indian, was killed in New Zealand after being mistaken for a kidnapper. Singh, who had come to New Zealand to support his family and celebrate his grandchild's birth, was punched by a 32-year-old man at Linwood Park in April 2023. The attacker thought Singh was trying to kidnap his son. Singh fell, hit his head, and died two days later. The attacker pleaded guilty to manslaughter and will be sentenced in October 2024. Singh's family is devastated, with his son Himanshu Keshwer returning to India to care for his mother.
