Hathras Stampede: Supreme Court to Hear Plea for Independent Probe on Friday

A petition filed by lawyer Vishal Tiwari demands a probe led by a retired top court judge and a status report from the Uttar Pradesh government. The petition also seeks legal action against officials found responsible. The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for Friday. The incident occurred at a religious gathering of self-styled godman 'Bhole Baba'. An SIT probe has blamed overcrowding as the main reason behind the tragedy. The court is expected to frame guidelines to prevent such incidents in the future.
