2 Dead, 130 Injured During Jagannath Yatra in Odisha

At least two people died and 130 were injured during the Jagannath Yatra in Odisha on July 7. One man from Bolangir district died from suffocation in a stampede-like situation, while another was crushed under a chariot wheel. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia for the families of the deceased. State revenue minister Suresh Pujari visited the injured in the hospital. The annual festival at the Jagannath Temple in Puri continues on July 8. Last year, three people died in similar incidents during the chariot-pulling ritual.
