Tragedy struck the Puri Rath Yatra as one devotee died of suffocation and several others were hospitalized due to heat and humidity. The massive crowd, larger than usual as the yatra was held over two days for the first time since 1971, led to chaotic scenes. Despite authorities' efforts to manage the situation, devotees were seen being carried out on stretchers and taken away in ambulances after collapsing. Officials emphasized that there was no stampede-like situation and adequate arrangements were made, including deploying ambulances and sprinkling water to keep devotees cool.
