Amarnath Yatra Begins with First Batch of Pilgrims Leave for Shrine, Tight Security in Place

The annual Amarnath Yatra has begun, with the first batch of pilgrims departing from the twin base camps in Baltal and Nunwan. The pilgrims are headed to the 3,880-meter-high cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas. The journey was flagged off by deputy commissioners, senior police, and civil administration officials. Strict security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and safe yatra. The officials are taking all necessary measures to prevent any untoward incidents. The yatra is expected to continue until August 11. So far, over 1.5 lakh pilgrims have registered for the yatra.
