1989-Batch IFS Officer Vikram Misri Named New Foreign Secretary of India

Vikram Misri, a 1989 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, has been appointed as India's new foreign secretary, succeeding Vinay Kwatra, effective from July 15. Misri, currently Deputy National Security Advisor, has previously served as private secretary to three prime ministers and as ambassador to China, Spain, and Myanmar. His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Misri played a key role in handling India-China relations post the Ladakh standoff. Meanwhile Vinay Kwatra is expected to be appointed as the next envoy to the US.
