Since March, India has recorded 110 confirmed deaths due to heatstroke, with 40,272 cases reported across the country, as per data from the Union health ministry. Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of deaths at 36, followed by Bihar with 17 and Rajasthan with 16. Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest number of cases at 10,636, but only five deaths were confirmed. By the end of May, there were 56 deaths and 24,849 cases reported. Union Health Minister J P Nadda conducted a review meeting on Wednesday to assess the heatwave situation, during which Director General of Health Services Dr. Atul Goel reiterated heatwave guidelines to the states.
