Eight people, including the loco pilot, died, and at least 60 were injured when the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express collided with a goods train near Rangapani station, seven kilometers from New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. The collision caused two rear compartments to derail. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs. 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 for the injured.
