Over 1,200 tourists, including 15 foreigners, have been stranded in Sikkim's Lachung town for a week due to heavy rains and landslides. The disaster has claimed six lives, damaged properties, and disrupted power, food, and mobile networks. Authorities plan to evacuate the tourists on Sunday, weather permitting, through airlift and roadways. The Sikkim government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased. The evacuation efforts will be coordinated by the Tourism and Civil Aviation minister, Tshering Thendup Bhutia. The stranded tourists have been waiting for rescue for a week, with many facing hardships due to the disrupted essential services.
