A devastating fire in Kuwait claimed the lives of 49 people, including 40 Indians, 21 of whom were from Kerala. Kerala's Health Minister Veena George will travel to Kuwait to assist with the treatment of the injured and repatriation of bodies, following the efforts of Junior Foreign Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh. The Kerala government announced ₹5 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased. The fire originated in the kitchen of a seven-storey building in Mangaf, Ahmadi Governorate, housing 195 migrant workers. The tragedy has sparked demands for stricter regulations against landlords and companies cramming foreign workers into unsafe accommodations to save costs.
