India Ranks 129th in Global Gender Gap Index

India has dropped two places to 129th in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap index, ranking fifth in South Asia. Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan fared better, while Pakistan ranked last in the region and 145th globally. India showed poor economic parity, with less than 30% gender parity in estimated earned income. However, it excelled in secondary education enrollment and political empowerment, ranking 65th globally. Despite a large population, India has closed 64.1% of its gender gap, with slight improvements in economic participation and opportunity. The decline was mainly due to small drops in educational attainment and political empowerment.
