Assam on High Alert as Manipur Violence Displaces 2,000

Violence in Manipur's Jiribam district has displaced around 2,000 people, prompting authorities to put neighboring Cachar district in Assam on high alert. Over 1,000 people have sought shelter in Cachar, with numbers rising. The displaced include Kukis, Hmars, and Meiteis. Assam MLA Kaushik Rai and officials held a meeting with community leaders to ensure the violence does not spread to Assam, which has a diverse population. Security has been beefed up in Lakhipur sub-division, with special commandos deployed. Authorities are working to maintain peace and prevent the violence from spilling over into Assam.
